We had a really hard time with kolcraft. They were soft and did not fit properly in our crib leaving gaps.I was initially disappointed when this arrived. It looked like it had been sitting in a warehouse for years. The plastic was thick with dust and dirt. However once the plastic was off and I gave it a good wipe down it was fully functional.I am all for natural, but I am happy it is vinyl coated. All of the pee, poop and spit up that end up on it are easily wiped up. Where on a cloth mattress it would seep down inside the plush and could mold or attract bugs. YUCK.I am not sure about the saggy complaints because in our Storkcraft crib and in our Today's Tot toddler bed it fits very nicely and has now held up for 2 years and is not yet sagging and is still very firm. Keep in mind we are talking a toddler was sleeping on this for 2 years he has gone from I would say around 20lbs to 28lbs, so it was no tiny infant for one of those years.Being in a toddler bed this has also held my husband and I in addition with no extra wear or softening.I love that all of my sheets fit nice, tight and secure. On the Kolcraft mattreses the sheets were loose and it just wasn't safe.My youngest son does have asthma, and I cannot say wether or not having this mattress with many chemicals in the room has or has not made it worse. The only thing that seemed to have made his asthma worse was an upstairs neighbor that smokes.Because the mattress does have somewhat of a smell when you get it like all memory foam does I highly recommend airing it out.I really also like the fact that it is resistent to bed bugs and other nats.I also love that it is lighter than good quality infant spring mattresses. The spring mattress is soooo heavy to lift out of the crib, and I can only imagine having to do it without a drop side rail. This made that lift up and out of the crib not nearly as taxing.I plan to buy a second for our infant who currently has an overpriced spring mattress. This mattress was well worth the extra money with my oldest. We have gone through 3 other types of mattresses to find one at a decent price that is firm and has a good fit.I just recently purchased this mattress after a lot of research. In my search I had a hard time deciding whether this mattress was truly organic and without chemicals. The cover is made of vinyle-laminate which is the only part of this mattress thats makes it not completely organic. Sealy does however state that the cover although vinyl-laminate is phthalate and flammability compliant and does not contain toxic fire retardants. Sealy makes the exact same mattress called the Sealy Soybean Foam-Core Dream which is made with a cotton cover. I was able to find this mattress at Bed Bath & Beyond and Buy Buy Baby websites fot about 160$ plus shipping. Sealy's website is also helpful at [...]. As new parents, we want to make the best decisions we can. Picking a crib mattress is daunting and it took me months to settle on this one. Our budget was $200 and I tried to find the safest green mattress I could for that price. Our second runner up was the Divinci Willow mattress. We ultimately decided on this one because it is Greenguard certified for no off-gassing and it is lighter weight for easy sheet changes. We purchased the mattress on sale at around $132 and applied a registry completion of 10% and 5% amazon mom discount for a total of $112 paid. It is a great value!We are very happy with our purchase. When we opened the mattress there was zero odor. It is lightweight, even for someone who is 8 months pregnant. It fit perfectly in our standard sized crib (Divinci Jenny Lind). It is firm but not uncomfortable. We are planning to put an organic cotton mattress pad cover on it to give it a little more loft and to cover the sleeping area with organic cotton instead of the vinyl of the mattress.This is not the greenest mattress you can find. The cover is vinyl and the insides are not 100% natural. Still, for the price it is a great value and safer than cheaper alternatives. There are no flame retardants and no off-gassing. You can pay 10x more for a wool mattress, but that wasn't in our budget nor did we feel it was a real priority for our family. If you have a higher budget, the Naturepedic No Compromise mattress is greener than this one but it is 3x the cost.
